This monument, placed near the southwest end of the main runway of Grafton Underwood Airfield, memorializes the 384th Bomb Group and other units that flew from here to attack German targets during WWII. The first US heavy bomber attack was launched from here on 17 August 1942, and the last bombs dropped during the strategic bombing campaign in Europe were from 384th B-17s flying from this airfield on 25 April 1945.
Robert Loureiro (16 Jul 2005): "Walt Kendall flew out of here on the Rainey crew. They were captured and sent to prison camp."
