Night of 3 August 1944; crashed at Grafton Underwood in fog while slow-timing a new engine, clipping trees with the left wing, crashing and burning in woods east of the field, killing four of five aboard - Howard A. Jung, Pilot, Thomas Cooper Bates, Navigator, Isaac Sellars, Radio, Harold L. Perry, Engineer. James Allan Vranna, CP, survived, after initially being reported as having died in the accident. Although grievously wounded, he survived, and went on to live a long life although the effects of his injuries stayed with him.
