Marquardt joined the 384th on 17 October 1943. He was the Bombardier of the Roger C Smith Crew. He completed 27 missions, most of which were as a member of a lead crew (which signifies exceptional skill at his duties). He flew his last mission on 7 October 1944, and departed Grafton Underwood 10 days later.

His A-2 Jacket recalls "RUM POT II" in which he flew five missions. That aircraft, an olive drab painted Boeing B-17G, was shot down on 13 April 1944 with the Joe Bedsole Crew.

All photos in this album were contributed by Marquardt's grandson Mike in July 2020.
