Phil Chaperon became the 33rd Veteran of the 384th Bomb Group to sign the wing panel on 5 October 2011, at his home in Portland, Oregon..

Chaperon was assigned to the 547th Bomb Squadron in October 1943 as a Flexible (Waist) Gunner on the Darwin Nelson Crew. On his 21st combat mission he was shot down and became a POW for the remainder of the war.
