Sun Newspapers photo, Frank D. Furiga, bombardier/navigator, 547th squadron, before a library talk in 1985 on his experiences during World War II. He is holding a silk escape map like those given to flyers and sometimes sewn into or hidden in clothing. At left is a beer stein from Shutzenhaus Meinigen, which was converted to a POW hospital during the war. Furiga was held there until his liberation in April 1945. In the display case is a model of the Memphis Belle and a copy of Roger Freeman's Fortress At War book, opened to the chapter on Furiga's personal story on his 25th mission, when he became a POW while serving as a navigator on the November 30, 1944 mission to Zeitz.
