This was a photo of COL Dale Smith and Staff, Commander of the 842nd from 23 Nov 43 to 24 Oct 44. Lt Don Bagby had this in his file and it was probably a copy of an original for the Commander of the 842nd since for publication since the aircraft was named "Ruthless" and was ditched in 1943. However, flight records showed this aircraft was first piloted by COL Budd John Peaslee on 22 June 1943 on 384th BG Mission #1.
