Research indicates the gunner may be TSgt Everett D Woodard, and the award of a purple heart recognizes his wounds received on a mission flown on 30 January 1944.

The presenting officer looks like BG Robert Travis, Commander of the 41st Bomb Wing. William Buck is standing to the left of the presenting officer behind the flower arrangement, with "Pop" Dolan to his left (partly obscured). Behind the awardee's left shoulder is Alfred Nuttall, 544th BS CO.

The identity of the awardee, the decoration being awarded, and the date of the award are under review and may be updated in the future.

ID of the award recipient The recipient in this picture is not an enlisted man. I think the presenting officer is BG Robert Travis. William E. Buck in front of the window and William Dolan to his left.
