Mound at west end of runway

This large mound of earth is at the West end of the runway just to the side of my (Runway) 6804 photo. I spoke to a number of woodmen who worked in the woods in the 60's and they told me this was covered with wire and they never knew why, but its rumoured that when the Americans left, very little was taken away. Most of the equipment was buried.
