[b]Gerald Lee Andersen[/b] Gerald Lee Andersen, tail gunner for the Joe Carnes crew. KIA 9/28/1944 in the mid-air collision between Lead Banana and Lazy Daisy. Andersen was tail gunner with the Buslee crew on the Lead Banana that day.

This 384th, 544th B-17 was the Jung Crew crash at the 384th base. Linda Rowley's uncle Sg William Sellars was killed in the accident.

The crew was slow timming a new engine when the weather closed in. Jung came in short of the runway and crashed into a wooded area short to the runway.

Quentin showed Linda and I the crash site and gave linda a part of the B-17.

Parts of this B-17 were donated to the Memphis Bell restoration by Quentin.

Notes:
1. The Buslee crew departed the US on July 1, 1944. They were stationed with the 544th Bombardment Squadron of the 8th Air Force at the Grafton Underwood airfield.
2. The orginal Buslee crew's bombardier was Lt. Marvin B. Fryden, who was killed on the crew's second mission on August 5, 1944. The photo must have been taken after Lt. James B. Davis replaced Fryden on the crew.
3. The crew must have trained together in the US as a crew of ten, but by the time they saw action, the B-17 crews were made up of only nine men. One Waist Gunner manned both waist gunner stations and was called a Flexible Gunner. As a result, this crew of ten never all served on the same mission together.
