COMMENT by mmeehl - firstname.lastname@example.org: This album contains photos taken by Ervin Tischer, 547th BS Ground Personnel, as well as some of his documents and letters to his wife, Marie.
This folder contains a mission by mission record of the planes sent out by the 546th BS as kept by crew chief Stanley Kishel, who was in charge of that squadron's A Flight. Kishel typed up the mission records and stored them in a three ring binder. The scans of his notebook are in this folder.
The George Stalnaker crew of the 391st Bomb Group, 9th Air Force, flying B-26 42-95821 "Miss Take", was shot down over France on 8 July 1944 on a mission to destroy a railway bridge over the Noire River in Nantes. The French Resistance, in particular the Olivo family of Poligne, hid the crew until their liberation by elements of the 4th Armored Division in the first week of August. Some of the crew returned to France in 1984 and was reunited with their resistance guardians.
The photos in this folder were taken by Luftwaffe pilot Harry S. Neudel of KG-51. Harry, born 22 November 1915, emigrated to the US a couple years after the war and died in New York 26 April 1993 at the age of 77. His son Roland made these unlabeled photos available to Ken Decker, who copied them.
