Ervin Tischer Photographs, Documents, and Letters

37 photos in 1 sub-albumErvin Tischer was transferred to the 384th Bomb Group 22 October 1943. He was assigned first to the 1774th Ordnance Supply and Maintenance Co. and then to the 547th BS as an airplane instrument mechanic specialist. He had married Marie in mid-1942 and corresponded with her during his time in the service. Tischer was trained in Lincoln, NE, and Chanute Field in Illinois. He served with the 2nd BG and the 379th BG before coming to Grafton Underwood.

Stanley Kishel Aircraft Maintenance Notebook, 546th BS

This folder contains a mission by mission record of the planes sent out by the 546th BS as kept by crew chief Stanley Kishel, who was in charge of that squadron's A Flight. Kishel typed up the mission records and stored them in a three ring binder. The scans of his notebook are in this folder.

George Stalnaker, 391st Bomb Group

The George Stalnaker crew of the 391st Bomb Group, 9th Air Force, flying B-26 42-95821 "Miss Take", was shot down over France on 8 July 1944 on a mission to destroy a railway bridge over the Noire River in Nantes. The French Resistance, in particular the Olivo family of Poligne, hid the crew until their liberation by elements of the 4th Armored Division in the first week of August. Some of the crew returned to France in 1984 and was reunited with their resistance guardians.

The photos in this folder were taken by Luftwaffe pilot Harry S. Neudel of KG-51. Harry, born 22 November 1915, emigrated to the US a couple years after the war and died in New York 26 April 1993 at the age of 77. His son Roland made these unlabeled photos available to Ken Decker, who copied them.
