The 384th received its first B-17G, serial number 42-31059, on 2 October 1943. All such aircraft were received with olive drab and gray camouflage paint finish, until serial number 42-32007 arrived on 1 March 1944. All new production aircraft arrived with unpainted "natural metal finish" starting with 42-32044 (Boeing), 42-97436 (Lockheed-Vega), and 42-106984 (Douglas).
The 384th received it's last combat B-17G, serial number 44-8923, on 12 April 1945. This aircraft flew only one combat mission, the final strategic bombing mission on 25 April 1945.

Aircraft 43-38750 was assigned to the 384th BG 544th BS on 16 October 1944, remaining with the group until 4 December 1944 (a period of 49 days) when it was salvaged after a crash landing in England. While it had been thought that the name 'TU YUNG TU' was associated with this aircraft, no clear photographic evidence of that has been found.

Aircraft 43-38766 was assigned to the 384th BG 546th BS on 16 October 1944, remaining with the Group through the Istres period. These photographs confirm the association of the name 'TU YUNG TU' – formerly believed to have been associated with 43-38750, assigned on the same date – with this aircraft.
